Jorge M. Abril is the Chief Executive Officer of Medical Accounts Systems and the Founder of Abril Law. With decades of experience in healthcare reimbursement, revenue cycle operations, managed care disputes, and complex healthcare litigation, Jorge has built a career at the intersection of law, finance, and healthcare operations.
Jorge's exposure to the healthcare revenue cycle industry began while working with critical care physicians at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. During this period, he attended California State University, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science. He later returned to South Florida to attend the Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University, earning his Juris Doctor degree in 1987. While in law school, Jorge was a member of the National Moot Court Team and the Moot Court Society, where he served as Business Manager.
Jorge was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1988 and to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida in 1989. Early in his legal career, he served as a senior trial associate for a prominent South Florida law firm, where he represented the United States in the recovery of federally guaranteed loans and gained extensive courtroom and trial experience litigating complex financial matters.
In 1991, Jorge founded Abril Law with a focus on healthcare reimbursement litigation, managed care disputes, commercial litigation, and post-judgment recovery. Through decades of representation of healthcare providers, physician groups, and businesses throughout the United States, he developed a reputation for combining aggressive legal strategy with practical revenue cycle solutions.
In 1998, Jorge acquired a controlling interest in Medical Accounts Systems and led the company's transformation into an attorney driven full-service revenue cycle organization. Under his leadership, MAS expanded its national healthcare client base, modernized its operational and technology infrastructure, and developed specialized recovery initiatives focused on complex reimbursement challenges, aged accounts receivable, underpayments, denial resolution, managed care disputes, and legally intensive revenue recovery matters.
Today, Jorge continues to oversee the strategic direction of MAS and Abril Law, bringing together legal expertise, operational insight, and revenue cycle strategy to help healthcare providers maximize reimbursement and navigate an increasingly complex healthcare landscape. He periodically lectures on healthcare reimbursement, managed care litigation, ERISA-related matters, and complex collection strategies.
